MY SUNDAY AT NAMUTAMBA ON THE MALCOLM MEMORIAL DAY - 13th NOVEMBER 2016.
Donald Sewanonda Katumba organized transport for me to Namutamba. The appointment time was 7.30am at Kibuye. I got up early as I normally do by 4.00am. 30 minutes to the appointment time I was in a taxi at Lubowa around Roofings. Our vehicle was stopped by a Traffic Policeman. I was surprised to see the driver move to the back of the vehicle with a shs 5,000 note. The Policeman moved to the front of the car. The driver pleaded with the Police fellow and shortly, the Policeman pulled out the car key from the switch and we were left with one option: Get another car. I imagined how I had started off the day, but prayed to God so that the remaining part of my day's journey remained safe. I had got worried as I did not want Donald to have to wait for me.
Donald found me at the appointment place. We collected other members with whom we were to travel and started on the journey to Namutamba for the now baptized Malcolm Lea Wilson Memorial day and also for the other pillars of Namutamba.
By the time we arrived, the Church Service had started at the Butumbizzi Archdeaconry Church. We were honoured to have a family member of Malcolm as well as some European lady from Kabale grace The day with testimonies about Malcolm. The Kabale lady has written the biography of Malcolm and has promised to get it to the Namutamba Community. I last attended service in this Church in 1988 after my late father Besuel Kiwanuka had retired from his teaching service at Namutamba and we were with the family members and Namutamba community thanking God for his fruitful career life.
While in the Church, we were informed about the status of the Church which is now at Archdeaconry level. This called for the construction of offices which are yet to be completed. We were required to make a contribution to the effort. The well known families of Namutamba which have connection to Malcolm either as former employres or missionery were read out and representatives from these families came forward. At the end of it, shs 5,010,000 was contributed to the offices project.
At the Church there is a Water Harvesting Project which is already completed. Photo images below.
After the Church, there was chatting with old friends. Hon. Nabakooba was part of the congregation. She supported the fundraising as well as used the opportunity to thank the voters for supporting her bid for Area Woman Member of Parliament Mityana district.
On the way to Dan Mukasa's residence, we were shown the Police Station Project whose construction is on-going at a piece of land that was donated by the Nagenda's. The Naganda's have accommodated the Police Post for a number of years. This project needs support as it is a community initiative. Development is only possible if there is good security in the area.
We then got to Dan Mukasa's home which is more of a Guest House in outlook that a simple residential home.
They day was great. We travelled safely back and at 10.00pm I was at home.
