THE LIFE OF OWOL. CHRISTOPHER MUKASA.

• He was born on 5th January 1934
• Started his education at Kitende Church of Uganda Primary School 1941 - 1944 for P. 1 to P 4.
• Went to Kayanja Namirembe Cathedral School for  P. 5 & P. 6 - 1945 to 1946
• He was at Mityana Junior Secondary for Secondary One to three from 1951
• In 1956 and 1957 he was with Survey Training School Nsamizi. 

Working Life

1957 He joined Uganda Bookshop

1957 He got saved

1957 - 1961 He was involved in selling newspapers and distributing book s to different shops.

1961 He was promoted to Branch Manager for Uganda Bookshop in Jinja.

1961 He resigned from Uganda Bookshop and became a free evangelist. 

1962 - 1964 He went to Germany for an Evangelistic Tour with Germans  - Preaching in              different Churches and schools.Countries they preached in included Switzerland,               France and England.

1964 - 1967 He was a Diocesan Youth Worker in Mbale. He used to go  back to the                       countries where he had been and done preaching. 

1964 On 12h September 1964 he got married to Irene.

1967 - 1968 Irene and Christopher went to Germany.  While Irene worked in a hospital as             a nurse, Christopher did preach.
1968 - Christopher and Irene Mukasa made an appeal to the brethren of East African Revival for support given the increasing burden of caring for the children as a family.  The appeal got positive response, and a Board of Trustees with a Management Committee was formed to take over ownership of the undertaking under Mission for Evangelism and Social Work (MESW). The components of MESW include:
             1. Evangelism
             2. Social Work (Bweya Children's Home)
             3. Medicare
             4. medical Services
             5. Community Based Healthcare.
1969 - Christopher met Alfred Finken in a Municipality in Dusseldorf.  With a Circle of his              friends who had already formed, Alfred began to prepare the financial support for            Bweya Children's Home (BCH).  In 1970, the association "Mision forEvangelism and              Social work Deutscher Zweig eV" was founded and Alfred travelled to Kenya and                Uganda forthe 1st time for 3 weeks. 
1968 - 1969 Back from Germany they stayed in Kavumba with Rev. Besweri Galiwango.

1969 - 1970 - They stayed in Mugongo with the Late Kusambiza's.

1969 Land at Bweya was bought and construction started - the current Bweya Children's             Home. 
1970 Children work started seriously at Bweya and registration was done. It is important            to note that the caring for children started in 1968 while at Kavumba with                        Peter Mukasa.  More children were recruited while at Mugongo (Isaaya,                              Milika, Semei, Apollo, and these were transferred to Bweya.
1973 - Alfred was sent for 3 years to support the construction at Bweya Children's Home.

2009 On 23rd November 2009, Irene Mukasa breathed her last.

2017  On 26th May 2017, Christopher Mukasa breathed his last at around 23.00hrs at                  Nsambya Hospital. He was buried on Monday, 29th May at 4.00pm at Bweya Children's        Home.  

OWOL. CHRISTOPHER MUKASA A PILLAR IN THE EAST AFRICAN REAWAKENED REVIVAL FELLOWSHIP HAS BURNT OUT.

Owol . Christopher Mukasa was one of the pillars of the East African Reawakened Revival Fellowship which has its headquarters at Kawempe Kirokole within Uganda. It is no surprise then that his send off on Monday was a heroes one as Reawakened Revival Fellowship members travelled from Kenya and Rwanda as well as from all regions of Uganda. It was no surprise that Bweya road had a traffic jam as a result of the many who turned up for burial.

The man of God who had the gift of preaching the word of God had a place infront of his residence where he used to 'kill' time as he watched the on - going activities at Bweya Children's Home. Many used to greet him from that place. He was last at that entrance to his house on Palm Sunday - 9th May 2017.

We shall surely miss his humility, love, story telling among the many things that characterized him.

I have shown Christopher Mukasa talking to his sister at the exact location where he used to spend his time while outside his residence.

A FUNERAL SERVICE AT NAMIREMBE CATHEDRAL ON SUNDAY, 28th MAY 2017 STARTING AT 3.00PM

There was a Funeral Service for the Late Owol. Christopher Mukasa at Namirembe Cathedral Church of Uganda, Sunday, 28th May 2017. The Service was officiated by Bishop Ssekadde who told mourners how Christopher had greatly to his spiritual nourishment and actually greatly contributed to his Dissertation while at College which required assessing the East African Revival in Namirembe Diocese.

The Bishop got his Sermon reading from Revelation 3 : 11.

Many praised Christophers humour, his kindness to everybody and his missionary work.

Christopher Mukasa used to sit outside his residence on a daily basis and would see what was going on around.  In the picture he was with his elder sister who used to pay him visits.

I LAST TALKED TO OWOL. CHRISTOPHER MUKASA ON PALM SUNDAY 2017.

On Palm Sunday within the morning hours, I checked on Christopher Mukasa outside his residence at a place he normally sat to have a view of the activities at Bweya Children's Home. This is the place many of us used to greet him and share a few things. That day I talked to 'Taata' ('Father') as I have been calling him. I must say that he was in such a condition that he could understand what I was talking to him about. Actually that day I called on him twice.

I was more than shocked when I learnt that on Monday of the Holy week at such a time that 'Taata' was normally brought out of the house in the wheel chair, he was like departing this world. An ambulance was brought to take him to hospital and he ended up admitted at Nsambya Hospital.

I was surprised to see a man who could be pushed in a wheel chair on daily basis to end up bed ridden without uttering a word from Saturday (Easter eve) to Tuesday 9th May when an ambulance was called to take him to Nsambya hospital. So, strictly speaking, I was one of the last people to talk to him while he was still able to answer back.

There are lessons we learn after seeing people close to us go through trying moments in slow death till they go through a very painful experience until they eventually breath their last.

There are a few things that seemed to disappoint 'Taata'. He was not happy to learn that we were keeping some information from him. It had been agreed that we do not inform him if anybody he happens to know died. Given the many people who called on him, it was normal for some visitor to inform him that someone had died and was already buried, yet we had kept this a secret. People in such state tend to get back to childhood expectations such that if they do not see you visit them frequently then they imagine that you do not have feelings for their situation, and this negatively impacts on their body resistance.

Christopher still had memory for certain things like names of people and events. He loved sharing. Someone would bring a cake for his consumption but he would end up calling people one by one to share the cake. One Sunday I did not call to greet him. On Monday when I went to greet him, he told me that he had reserved a cake for me but did not see me. There are instances when I could take three days without greeting him. On calling to greet him, he would tell me how he had not seen me the past three days.

This morning I went to check on Christopher's grave, and I proved that I was never to see him again. God relieved him of the pain he was going through. I thank God for the time I shared with Christopher. He was a friend indeed.

KAMPALA, Uganda: In the media and public fraternity sails a quotation by President Museveni’s Senior Advisor on Media Affairs, Joseph Tamale Mirundi thus; “Kaweesi killers will be apprehended in the next government.” To many, it was just a loose prediction, expressly given the police boss Gen. Kale Kayihura’s ever reassuring statements of “we have already arrested some. We shall get them wherever they are.”

During the burial of hitherto Uganda Police Force chief mouthpiece, Late AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi, his tight friend and colleague, AIGP John Ndugutse, speaking on behalf of friends, confidently roared thus; “What we only want is the IGP’s permission for us to look for them (Killers)… and we shall deliver in no time. We shall get them and align them before justice.”

True to his word, Ndugutse had himself earlier, arrested someone scooping blood-mucky soils from the scene of crime and it was just a matter of connecting the dots. Also in line of this investigative school of thought was hitherto Police Political Commissar, AIGP Fred Yiga had who ordered for the same suspect’s apprehension and interrogation. This was never to be. Kaweesi family members have since decried the way the two senior Cops have been thrown out of the investigations with even one’s job switched.

“Dr. Yiga insisted on what is right by arresting those guys and insisting on their interrogation but instead he was punished. Baroza who disrespected him on phone and attacked him for arresting those guys is instead being pampered. Those guys and Baroza who protected them haven’t been interrogated at all yet it’s important to tell us where they were taking my brother’s blood? Are they cannibals? Leo Ruhinda, Kaweesi’s brother lamented to media last week.

Last night, an indigenous news website, Chimp Reports led with a story where, a one Geoffrey Byamukama was tortured to near death by the usual chief tormentor, SSP Nickson Agasirwe. “This is unacceptable… Our uncle was arrested by the Police Special Operators led by SSP Nickson Agasirwe who beat him to near death. He sustained severe injuries on the head, ribs and legs. Yet, Byamukama had nothing to do with Kaweesi murder. Those who tortured him wanted a confession at all costs.” The reporter quoted a relative.

The story

“Those who tortured him wanted a confession at all costs” is the statement that gives credence to this article. Read on… The people of Kisaasi (the neighboring town of Kulambiro where Kaweesi was gunned down along with his driver and bodyguard on March 17^th 2017), were about to dance to the tunes of bullets last Wednesday when, detectives disagreed on who to lead the team which police’s ‘prime suspect’ in the callous murders was to guide them to the scene.

Our impeccable sources narrate that whereas Byamukama, the former mayor of Kamwenge stood by his innocence and blasphemed to die protecting his conscience, another ‘suspect,’ one Tumusiime succumbed and ‘confessed’ his guilt to Kaweesi murder. After this, Nixon and group got contented they were done with the case. Excited, they organized for the mandatory reconstruction of the crime scene.

On Wednesday, sources tell us, Nixon’s team led by Special Police Constable Hajji Abdu Ssemuju aka Minaana planned to pick Tumusiime from Nalufeenya detention facility for the scene reconstruction. On the team were also, ASPs Kidandi Ayubu and Fred Tumuhiirwe as well as a one Kasiba, another SPC. Why the team with ASPs on board could be led by an SPC is a story of its own.

The other team of formal senior detectives comprised of Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) CIID boss Benson Olal and Flying Squad’s Herbert Muhangi. Both squads drove safely from Jinja-based serious crimes detention facility until when they reached around Kisaasi trading center where, Olal stopped and issued orders. He insisted that from this point, the ‘suspect’ MUST lead them to the scene of crime.

Just like all fictional stories can’t add up simply because of the missing links, the authors of Tumusiime’s confession had missed a crucial necessity of having him ‘privately’ visit the scene before he could officially lead the detectives to the same. At Kisaasi, he got totally lost. He could not point in the direction leading to the murder scene to which he had claimed to have visited four times before he finally, ‘committed’ the fatal felony.

Confused, he went silent. This is when a fray ensued between the two sides, with Minaana insisting they were the ones to lead the group to the scene. “They nearly exchanged fire. It was a blunder which Nixon’ team couldn’t take lying down,” said our Nalufeenya source. In the middle of the muddle, Minaana, whom we reported in these pages as a murder suspect at large-cum-policeman (Read: CIP Records P.I: Facts Why Gen. Kale Cannot Clean Police of the Trash he Himself Littered the Force with), raised the IGP on phone, informing him of how the Olal team had ‘staged a coup.’

With no suppositions left, the operation had aborted. A call was received by the formal Detective team, ordering them to retreat and hand back the suspect to Nalufeenya base. Sources reveal that Tumusiime is in coolers with tens of other suspects who have jammed to kowtow to the torture detectives’ poohoo of, ‘confess and save self from more torture.’

Details obtained by the Investigator indicates that Kaweesi murder investigations might turn into an eye-opener to the hitherto momentally suspects’ confessions that remain in loose words and/or pencil-in-scripted notes that wipes out of Ugandans’ memories days after the victims’ burial and/or the cases’ fading away from headlines.

Whereas the Police spokesperson, AIGP Asan Kasingye on Sunday ‘named all’ the suspects in custody over Kaweesi murder, many, including Tumusiime and others in other security facilities’ detention, were left out of the list. However, our sources inform us that those left out are highly suspected to be the real suspects. Watch this space…

My Last Word: Could Late Kaweesi Killers have Saved Him from a Lifetime Embarrassment that was Unstoppably Looming!

KAMPALA, Uganda: Today last week (Friday 17^th March) at Kulambiro, a Kampala suburb, heartless creatures penned a full stop to the energetic, pragmatic senior Police Officer and my neighbor, AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi’s life. On Tuesday this week, he was laid to rest back home of Kitwekyanjovu in Lwengo District. RIEP.

At his burial and the days preceding it, great people from all walks of life came together as a family to celebrate the life of a celebrated officer. Sheiks, Catholic Bishops, Anglican Bishops and clergy came together to pray for Kaweesi’s peaceful landing before his creator. To sum it up all, the Late Kaweesi’s sendoff was highly of great honour and prestigious.

However, had he lived a little bit longer, in my opinion of course, he would probably have lost such overwhelming respect from all-over Uganda and the EA region. And indeed, upon his demise, many of the esteemed Ugandans mentioned above could have feared to associate with him and or his casket. Reason? Read on…

That President Museveni on Thursday summoned Gen. Kale Kayihura, DPP Michael Chibita, the infamous Wamala murder case Investigating Officer (I.O) William Okalanyi, the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) and a few lower detective officers that managed the initial investigations in the February 3^rd 2012 callous murder, is an old story.

That the fallen officer was repeatedly accused of involvement and or sabotaging of the same case, is among the oldest stories, especially to the Investigator ardent readers. What then is the story? One would wonder. Well, the story is that the Late Andrew Felix Kaweesi had grown ripe and mature for prosecution and possible imprisonment.

In the Thursday meeting the reportedly acrimonious President Museveni had wondered why on earth, Police and Public Prosecution department had ‘failed’ to conclude the case yet with glaring evidence pointing at who could have murdered the businessman, Wilberforce Wamala, his Shamba-boy Sadique Mugerwa and later in 2013, the prime suspect/witness, Hassim Ssali at Mutungo and Bukasa police cells respectively.

Whereas the main case of Wamala and Sadique had ‘successfully’ been mismanaged, the revelation by Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court that Hassim Ssali had been murdered and didn’t commit suicide in detention cells as earlier claimed by police, turned everything back onto the investigation road. Whoever had killed Ssali had a hand in Wamala’s murder. Period.

And among the people mentioned in the Ssali murder, the Late Kaweesi is on top of the list. The allegations that he was involved are not merely narrated to detectives. They are lined in two extra-judicial statements on the file. One was sworn by an eyewitness at Bukasa police post and the other was penned by a police officer who was planted at the station to own and defend the fatal incident.

This was a story that had been scheduled to be uploaded in these lines on Friday but was ‘killed’ by Kaweesi’s untimely demise on the same day… “I saw Kaweesi and others entering the cells with three cans of chloroform…” reads in part, the extrajudicial statement that was recorded both on paper and video by Makindye Chief Magistrate Richard Mafabi on July 13^th2016. Mafabi later died mysteriously after a brief headache.

The attempted ‘murder’ of the murder case files             

In November last year after completing their perusal, the Director of Public Prosecution’s office returned the late Wamala case files to the police. The covering letter and report were addressed to the Investigating Officer CP William Okalanyi. About two to three weeks ago, the family learnt that the files had been removed from the Investigating officer by Erasmus Turyahuka.

Turyahuka heads the police legal department. On contacting him, he alleged that the files had been sent to him by mistake. “I didn’t have anything to do with the files and I don’t know why they were sent to me, so I sent them back to the CIID headquarters.” This however, was a very strange statement coming from a person who studied law.

To this end, the Wamala family had been following the files and they were aware that they had been addressed to the Investigating Officer, not Turyahuka. Why was he denying is anyone’s wonder.  It is known that Okalanyi and Turyahuka work in the same office. Given the benefit of the doubt, if Turyahuka was correct, he would still have provided the family with the correct information about the status of the file. He had clear knowledge on who was tasked with handling the case. However, that was far from the case.

On getting knowledge that the family had this information, he changed his statement. When he was visited by a family delegate, this time he gave a contradictory statement that the files were with the IGP. He added that the IGP was to hold a meeting regarding the same. Surprisingly On the 13^th of March another contradiction was that the family delegate found out that files were in Kibuli CID HQ on M/s Grace Akullo’s desk.

On attaining that information, on the 7^th of March 2017 the widow, communicated with IGP via text informing him of the above discrepancies, she requested that the files be returned to the I.O to complete the case.  The IGP never responded.

Originally, after the meeting with the President, the DPP, IGP and the CIID Director were charged with following up the process to finality. Hence the President’s statement to the widow thus; “return to London and I will call you once the investigations are complete.” That was in May 2015.

The report from the DPP is understood to have been explicit on the extrajudicial statements that incriminated the fallen Kaweesi in Hassim Ssali’s murder in Bukasa police cells. At the inquest, the coroner, had also explored and concluded that the suspect had been murdered and not hanged as the police pathologists alleged in the post mortem report.

The police did not appeal against the coroner’s findings but instead put the file in abeyance. Neither did they pass it onto the Investigating Officer as requested by the DPP. However, when it was time for the files to be returned to the DPP’s office they rejoined them.

With two extrajudicial statements one from a police officer incriminating police in Ssali’s murder, both the coroner’s and  the DPP’s reports clearly gave  guidance and pointers to the direction of where the  investigation was heading. To the family, the investigation was home and dry. However, the turn of events since, the least it is disappointing and worst, very hurting to them.

I didn’t know the late Wamala but I was touched by the senseless way his life was taken. He could have been my brother or anyone’s brother. Hearing and observing every effort the widow has made to get justice and the road blocks and all forms of barriers that were laid in her way, I got drunk on helping her seek justice. It is therefore, not surprising that they have instead decided to line me up among the suspects!

I think it is in the interest of those who do not want the Late Wamala’s case resolved to shock the country with the murder of Andrew Felix Kaweesi. I also think the next stage is to find someone or people to blame for his death.

The Thursday Meeting

On the 7^th of March 2017, the widow was in communication with the President’s PPS seeking for an appointment. She wanted to follow up on the reminder she had forwarded the big man. The PPS reassured that the First Citizen had received her letter and would respond.

Indeed on Thursday, which now turns out to be Kaweesi’s demise eve, the President made well on his promise by summoning the above mentioned team. The President was not only bitter but further lamented the criminal infiltration in police. He was to reiterate the same at Kaweesi’s vigil two days later. The tough talking Museveni gave Kayihura and DPP only one week to have the accused aligned before justice.

Kaweesi did not live to face this. On Friday, Gen. Kayihura, who looked every inch disturbed by the Thursday meeting, summoned the I.O and the other detectives he went with but this time, he also invited on board, some of the suspects in police uniform! Hardly had he gone through the introduction of the agenda, a call came in and, the caller was informing him of the sudden death of his blue-eyed boy, the Assistant Inspector General of Police Andrew Felix Kaweesi vide assassination means.

For the last five years, the late Wamala’s family have sought after justice through the law and their persistence along with their pain fueling their zeal, led them to gain President Museveni’s attention on the matter, and are still waiting.

The late Wamala’s widow Elizabeth has been publicly open about the case and its developments. To me the most emotive issue about this death as I came to understand it, is how to explain to the children what happened to their father. As a father, I understand these sentiments because I lost my wife. I rest my case. Sleep Well Felix
