IS IT KING OYO’S ORIGINAL IDEA TO GO ON HUNGER STRIKE?

The people close to King Oyo need to tell the Ugandans whether it is the youthful King’s original idea to go on hunger strike over developments in his kingdom.  This is a development which is death threatening, considering that the King’s father died when Oyo was so young.  Those close to the King should have advised before this became news material.  The Government may have had calculations such that the Kings hunger strike is ignored, what happens next?  What if the King fails to put into practice the hunger strike?  This was not well advised and its best the Kingdom comes up with a statement reversing the hunger strike.

King Oyo To Go On Hunger Strike Over Creation Of New Kingdoms

Tooro King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, will fast for seven days to show his displeasure with the ongoing division of his kingdom.
In an interview with local media, Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister, Dr. Stephen Kaliba, says King Oyo will fast at his palace in Fort Portal starting on Saturday June 14th.
Since the coronation of Lt. Col Martin Kamya as the cultural leader of the Bamba and Bawisi in Bundibugyo district two weeks ago, there has been discomfort in Tooro Kingdom.
Kaliba says that the King is disappointed that the creation of Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu in Kasese and Obudhingya Bwa Bamba in Bundibugyo has divided and weakened the power and supremacy of Tooro Kingdom. Kaliba adds that the King will also fast over delay by the government to return the kingdom assets.
According to Kaliba, the King will fast with his subjects from the counties of Tooro, which include Kyaka, Mwenge, Kitagwenda, Kibaale, Bunyagabu, Burahya, Ntoroko and Fort Portal Municipality. He adds that prayers will also be held during the fasting period.
Kaliba says King Oyo is unhappy that the new kingdoms were formed without even consultation with the mother kingdom. He says that the creation of other kingdoms has led to ethnic clashes and yet the Batooro, Bakonzo and Bamba and other tribes have been living harmoniously before the cultural institutions.
He says that the creation of the new kingdoms will make it hard for Tooro to claim some of its assets in Bundibugyo which include two commercial buildings in Bundibugyo town and more than 70 hectares of land.
Some subjects have welcomed the move by King Oyo and are ready to join him during the fasting period.
Beatrice Nyangoma, a member of Ebitara n’Amacumu, says it’s disappointing that President Museveni, who is a regent and Omujwara Kondo or Defender of the Kingdom, which is the highest honour in Tooro, to support the division of the kingdom.
There are unconfirmed reports that other areas that are part of Tooro Kingdom are also agitating to have their own cultural leaders. The areas include Kitagwenda in Kamwenge district, Busongora in Kasese district and Kyaka in Kyegegwa district.

BEFORE YOU REPORT ANY THEFTS …

It is patriotic to report a thief as that way resources may be saved.  However, before you get to report a wrong doer, you ought to make sure that your identity remains confidential and the beneficiary of your reporting should confirm that he will.

I recently got concerned about the way some fellow was misusing donor funds for the poor people of Kamuli for whom he was supposed to see  Maternity facility put up and operational.  This guy did not only go into buying and changing cars, he got some of the funds and procured Vocational training equipment as well as worked on the estate of his parents among other things.  He was able to convince the donor that because of the inflation, he was unable to complete the project.  The donor thought that he was told the truth.  He organized another round for this guy’s project.  What shocked me is to find the guy had bought a Prisma TV set which I believe is in millions and was at it again, spending as he wished.

I ended up writing to the donor requesting to better have this beneficiary supervised if the project was to achieve its objective.  I requested him to keep my communication confidential.  After taking time without hearing from the donor, I wrote to him wondering how he had not responded to my information.  The reply I got was that he had inquired from the treasurer whether I was a Board member for the organization!  In so doing, he released the name of the informer, and worse, the treasurer is a sister of the chief executive!

If one of these days I am declared dead, chances could be that the unprofessional way the donor handled the matter could be the cause.  I need your prayers.  In case you have to report a thief, take care, as you could end up losing your life.

BE CAREFUL PLANNING THE DEATH OF OTHER PEOPLE AS…

The Bible Exodus 20: 13, says, “You shall not murder”.

It is sad the way some people scheme the death of others.  Unfortunately, some who scheme fail to get their missions a success as not all such schemes involve direct killing say, using a gun or iron bar.

Which ever way the killing is schemed, it can be very frustrating to the schemer when his target fails, and in some instances another party ends up dying.

I think it is wise not to scheme the death of other people, much as it is a sin and criminal, it can lead to destruction of innocent lives that may have not have been the target of the schemer.

Have a blessed Sunday, and NEVER KILL.

JOHN NAZARETH TALKS ABOUT THEIR MISSION WHILE AT St.MARY'S COLLEGE KISUBI

John Nazareth writes that during the pre-Independence Election of 1962 (when the Kabaka Yekka – UPC alliance got elected), the Kisubi Parish Church was ransacked at night and the Blessed Sacrament tabernacle was broken into and the Host was stolen. In SMACK we were afraid that the same thing would happen there. So Anthony Carvalho and I – both sacristans – volunteered to sleep in the sacristy to give an alarm in case our Chapel was attacked. We slept there for 2 years even a few months in the office of the new church built. At that point after it was clear that things had cooled down, we went back to sleeping in our dormitories.

IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT STATE OF THE NATION ADDRESS TO OVERSHADOW WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

Today, June, 5 2014 is World Environment Day.  It is unfortunate that the day will not get the significance it deserves simply because there is the State of the nation Address.  What is most unfortunate is that those who are well positioned and politicians are the best abusers of the Environment in Uganda.

Celebrate the biggest day for positive environmental action!

World Environment Day (WED) is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. Over the years it has grown to be a broad, global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated by stakeholders in over 100 countries. It also serves as the ‘people’s day’ for doing something positive for the environment, galvanizing individual actions into a collective power that generates an exponential positive impact on the planet.
In support of the UN designation of 2014 as the International Year of Small Island Developing States (SIDS), WED this year will adopt SIDS in the broader context of climate change as its theme. Our objectives are to help build momentum towards the Third International Conference on SIDS in September and encourage a greater understanding of the importance of SIDS and of the urgency to help protect the islands in the face of growing risks and vulnerabilities, particularly as a result of climate change. We believe WED will be an excellent opportunity to raise a call for solidarity with the islands.

"Planet Earth is our shared island, let us join forces to protect it."
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the launch of the 2014 International Year of Small Islands and Developing States

Every Action Counts
WED is the opportunity for everyone to realize not only the responsibility to care for the Earth and to become agents of change.
WED 2013 generated global coverage and publicity with about 200,000 blog posts and more than 26,000 articles published on WED between 1 and 10 June 2013 alone. Our videos on WED were viewed by close to 120 million people on digital screens in Times Square in New York, Piccadilly in London, and at Live Windows (Benetton stores) in Milan, London, Munich, Barcelona and Almaty. On social media, among Twitter’s reported 200 million active users, WED was among the top 10 most talked about topics in at least 15 countries on 5 June,  with an estimated 47.6 million impressions on the Day itself.
