Kigezi
has been hit hard by the death of Robert Kikomo Kitariko, former DP Secretary
General.
The
charismatic leader also served as Uganda Electoral Commission Commissioner and
Minister of Agriculture.
Kitariko
died on Monday evening 17th January 2016 at International Hospital
Kampala where he has been battling stroke for the last one year.
The
DP stalwart served as in the early years of NRA/NRM before retiring from public
service in early 2000s.
In
the 1980 elections, he stood for the Kigezi Central Parliamentary seat which he
lost to UPC’s Katama
In
the 1989 National Resistance Council (NRC) elections, Kitariko stood against Dr
David Livingstone Ruhakana Rugunda for the Kabale municipality seat where he
lost the race by a single vote.
In
1994, Kitariko contested again for the same seat before losing to Rugunda.
Relatives
said the deceased will be laid to rest at his ancestral home of Nyabirerema in
Bukinda sub-county, Rukiga County in Kabale district.
