ON THE LAST DAY OF 2022, I WISH TO THANK GOD FOR THAT PERSON WHO GIFTED ME A RESIDENTIAL HOUSE.

I was gifted a residential house by a person who was touched by God given the suffering inflicted to me by some people in Uganda.

For 12 years, I raised funds, which unfortunately were intercepted by some people, though the amount is in billions of Shillings, I have not accessed even a coin of that money!

I was surprised when about three months ago, I was told to be ready to travel and see the house that had been gifted to me. This to me is evidence that God is there. He saw the suffering I had endured for 12 years and acted through an individual. It is unfortunate the suffering some people put to us through simply because they are connected and possibly cannot be prosecuted.

One thing comforts me: “You can steal what belongs to us, but one day, whatever the title you hold today, surely you will expire and leave this earthly life as you came into it with nothing”.

I have since done simple gardening. I bought some Banana suckers from Kawanda and some fruit seedlings. I also have some other enterprises in the garden.

My fundraising efforts from 2010 to 2022 where I have not been able to access a coin are listed below:

A PRAYER FOR THOSE WHO USE THEIR OFFICES TO STEAL OUR MONEY.

Good Lord, as we enter the year 2023, we pray that you touch the hearts of those people in responsible positions in Uganda who see themselves so powerful possibly above the law and are at liberty to access our money unlawfully and take it.

God, in 2023, change the hearts of these people who see themselves entitled and disregard the efforts of others.

Let them understand that what they are doing is unlawful, but because they assume that they are above the law and cannot be prosecuted, they continue with impunity to take what lawfully belongs to others.

Lord, open the eyes of these people wide to know that what they are doing is wrong and that they inflict so much pain to their victims.

Lord, let them know that one day they will expire taking nothing with them.

In Your name I pray.

AMEN

POPE FRANCIS’ 2023 YEAR RESOLUTION.

Every year, millions of people make New Year’s resolutions, hoping to spark positive change. The recurring themes each year include a more active approach to health and fitness, improved finances, and learning new things for personal development.

But sometimes, it’s pretty likely that most of us will fail to stick to our resolutions — at least if failure is judged in an absolute sense because sometime they are impossible to achieve. Well, the key to an attainable New Year's Resolution can be seen in the list itself! How? Well, one can learn from the simple list of New Year's Resolution from Pope Francis:

1. DON'T GOSSIP.

“When you gossip, you are doing what Judas did, and begin to tear the other person to pieces. Every time you judge another in your heart or worse when you speak badly of that person with others, you are murdering him/her.  There is no such thing as innocent slander.”

2. FINISH YOUR MEAL.

“Throwing food away is like stealing from the tables of the poor and the hungry.  Reflect on the problem of thrown away and wasted food to identify ways and means that, by seriously addressing this issue, you are a vehicle of solidarity and sharing with the needy.”

3. MAKE TIME FOR OTHERS.

“If the Pope can find time to be kind to others, if he can pause to say thank you, if he can take a moment make someone feel appreciated, then so can I. So can you.” -Fr James Martin

4. CHOOSE THE MORE HUMBLE PURCHASE.

“Certainly, possessions, money, and power can give a momentary thrill, the illusion of being happy, but they end up possessing you and making you always want to have more, never satisfied.  Put God in your life, place your trust in Him, and you will never be disappointed.”

5. MEET THE POOR IN THE FLESH.

“Hospitality in itself is not enough. It is not enough to give a sandwich if it is not accompanied by the possibility of learning to stand on one’s own feet. Charity that does not change the situation of the poor is not enough.”

6. STOP JUDGING OTHERS.

“If someone is gay and seeks the Lord with good will, who am I to judge? Let us not forget that hatred, envy, and pride defile our lives.”

7. BEFRIEND THOSE WHO DISAGREE.

“When leaders in various fields ask me for advice, my response is always the same: dialogue, dialogue, dialogue. It is the only way for individuals, families, and societies to grow, the only way for the life of peoples to progress, along with the culture of encounter, a culture in which all have something good to give and all can receive something good in return. Others always have something to give you, if you know how to approach them in a spirit of openness and without prejudice.”

8. MAKE COMMITMENTS.

“I ask you to be revolutionaries, to swim against the tide.  Yes, I am asking you to rebel against this culture that sees everything as temporary and that ultimately believes that you are incapable of responsibility, that you are incapable of true love.  I have confidence in you and I pray for you. Have the courage to swim against the tide.  Have the courage to be happy.”

9. MAKE IT A HABIT TO ASK THE LORD.

“Dear young people, some of you may not yet know what you will do with your lives.  Ask the Lord, and He will show you the way. The young Samuel kept hearing the voice of the Lord who was calling him, but he did not understand or know what to say, yet with the help of the priest Eli, in the end he answered: 'Speak, Lord, for I am listening' (cf. 1 Sam 3:1-10). You too can ask the Lord: What do you want me to do? What path am I to follow?”

10. BE HAPPY.

“Joy is a pilgrim virtue; it cannot be held at heel, it must be let go.  It is a gift that walks, walks on the path of life, that walks with God.  Preaching and proclaiming Him is proclaiming joy, that lengthens and widens the path.

PROF. KALEEBU ADVISED ON EBOLA SURVIVORS

Prof. Kaleebu urged Ebola survivors on safe sex at a function where Mbire hosted St. Mary’s College, Kisubi (SMACK) OBs to a dinner.

by Mike OPIO | THE SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.

Uganda’s top scientist Prof. Ponsiano Kaleebu urged survivors of the deadly Ebola Virus to use condoms following a discovery that the virus can remain alive in the human sperms for up to six months and can be spread through having live sex.

Prof. Kaleebu, who is the Director of Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI), made the revelation at an awards dinner hosted by businessman Charles Mbire for the SMACK 70s OBs at the Kampala Serena Hotel, on Tuesday 20th December 2022.

Prof. Kaleebu, was one of the Old Boys of the school who was awarded for outstanding services in the area of scientific research.

“We have had a number of challenges in scientific research and we are trying to categorize the different viruses we are faced with, right from HIV, COVID 19 and now Ebola, each one of which presents different characteristics. For Ebola, much as it’s easy to manage the spread, we have discovered that it can stay alive in human sperm for up to six months and victims who survived, risk spreading it through sex” he said.

On COVID 19, Prof Kaleebu urged people especially the elderly to go for booster doses of generational vaccines since the virus has the ability to mutate, therefore presenting challenges of developing new variants.

On the progress with the Ugandan vaccines which the President promised the nation, Prof Kaleebu said scientific research especially the ones that involve developing vaccines go through intricate processes that cannot be rushed.

“ It’s quite challenging to mix science with politics. I never told anyone that we would develop the vaccine in six months. Me I always say the truth. Science and ethics are my truth. But we are making steady headway. Unlike HIV, COVID is different because the human immune system can fight it. And that explains why it was easy to develop the vaccines in such short span of time”” he said.

He thanked the SMACK OBs for giving him an award in recognition of his scientific exploits.

MTN Uganda Chairman Charles Mbire, who presented the award, said Uganda is blessed to have people of Professor Kaleebu’s calibre, adding that when COVID hit the world by surprise, everyone else went into hiding but scientists like him stood their ground to fight the pandemic and the relief the world is experiencing now can be attributed to them for their heroic exploits.

“Some of us in Uganda were able to uptake the vaccines because of Prof. Kaleebu’s involvement and participation in the formation of the vaccines. He is our own, an OB of SMACK in the 70s with whom we ate fene in Kisubi. He is the one who gave us the assurance that the vaccines were safe” Mbire said.

The dinner, which was graced by a cross section of flamboyant OBs in company of their spouses, also saw the outgoing Head Teacher of SMACK, Brother Aganyira Deodati awarded for his outstanding service to the school.

The other awardee was the IT Manager of Uganda Virus Research Institute Mr Robert Mugabi for his outstanding efforts in the vaccine research at the Institute. Each one of them received a gift from Mbire of the latest Iphone.

Brother Deodati thanked the OBs of the school for standing with the school and upholding its greatness over times. He particularly praised Mbire for the lavish dinner in addition to the construction of staff quarters and donation of large TV screens to the school.

The Senior citizens were entertained by the famous Afrigo Band that kept them on the dance floor with memorable songs deep into the night.

THE GRANDCHILDREN OF LATE LAZAALO SSEBAYIZZI ARE MOST GRATEFUL TO St. PETER’S CHURCH OF UGANDA, SSISA FOR ACCORDING THEIR MOTHER, AUNT, GRANDMOTHER A DIGNIFIED SEND OFF ON JANUARY 2, 2022.

Our mother, aunt, grandmother, Manjeri Nangozi Lutwama passed on during the morning hours on January 1, 2022. Instead of celebrating entry into 2022, the children, grandchildren of Manjeri Lutwama together with the grandchildren of Late Lazaalo Ssebayizzi instead were in mourning following the passing of their loved one. Manjeri passed on after all the biological children of Lazaalo Ssebayizzi had died. She was a uniting, developmental parent, hence her death left a big vacuum regarding who was to play that role after her.

Late Lutwama

During the Vigil of Manjeri Lutwama at her home, Ssisa  - Gayaza village, the Chairperson of Ssisa Church, Mother’s Union together with the Mubulizi of Ssisa Church and other leaders in Ssisa Church requested us the children of Manjeri to allow the body of our mother to be taken to St. Peter’s Church of Uganda, Ssisa for recognition of the roles Manjeri had played in the Church for decades. It was not straight forward agreeing that our mother be taken to the Church for fear that the burial program would be disorganized. However, the party advocating for the Church program convinced the children that the Service was to start at 10.00am.

We as the grandchildren of Lazaalo Ssebayizzi are most grateful full to the colorful send off that was given to Manjeri and we shall forever remain grateful.

TILL WE MEET AGAIN JAJJA MANJERI LUTWAMA.

The testimonies given as Jajja Manjeri Lutwama was being bid farewell were really moving. She was a committed mother and grandmother, she was an organizing and uniting factor. She loved the Lord and showed commitment to serving Church of Uganda at St. Peter’s Church - Ssisa. She was a model to learn from.

May she Rest well.

TILL WE MEET AGAIN.
