THE STORY: SHS 170M SMARTPHONES STOLEN IN KAMPALA TRAFFIC JAMS NEEDS TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY.

The stealing of smartphones valued at shs 170m from from pedestrians and motorists in Kampala between December 2015 and February this year has to be taken seriously.

1st, it shows that there are so many people out there without viable employment, yet they have to make a living, so, they resort to stealing among other things smartphones.

2nd, it is clear that many such stolen phones end up on Uganda market and are hence sold to unsuspecting public.

3rd, chances are that such stolen phones are easily used in committing crime. A case in point, just on Easter, someone sent a message to my Airtel number indicating that I had received MTN Mobile money shs 1,870,000 from: Mityana General stores Ltd. So, for someone who may not know how mobile money transactions work, chances that such message leads him/her to some loss cannot be ruled out.
