MATTHIAS SEKITOLEKO KIGGUNDU A SMACK OB AND CHAIRMAN PTA OF St. MARY'S COLLEGE KISUBI IS DEAD

Early Friday morning as I listened to CBS FM, I heard Owek. Kaddu Kiberu announce the death of Matt Kiggundu an Old Boy of St. Mary's College Kisubi .

It is so sad.

Matt Kiggundu was at the Golden Jubilee of Brother Cosmas Kafeero his former classmate.  This is what I remember when he was called upon to talk about the Brother by Hon. Matia Kasaija:

Matt Kiggundu was emphasized the pledge to help in treating Brother Kafeero their former classmate. Kiggundu said that Kafeero was good at a number of areas which among others included: Playing the Organ, Swimming, Mathematics, Fine Art. So, Matt asked Bro. Kafeero to share a bit of his gifts. Brother Kafeero was very generous, he could help others and they learnt concentration on studies from him. Kiggundu said that Brother Kafeero's Classmates were committed to look after him until God calls him. That he was the only classmate of theirs who has remained committed and religious.

May Matt Kiggundu's soul rest in eternal peace.

Dear all,

The Late Matia Kiggundu Sekitoleko who will be buried next week when all his three children arrive from out side Uganda will be laid to rest about half a kilometre from the 2nd branch off  to Kajjansi Airstrip along the road to Lutembe.  This is off Entebbe Highway at Kajjansi trading centre at Bweya Kanyigo - Bulonde Zone).  The Burial grounds are at his elder Brothers' home (Emmanuel Tamale).  Vehicles will park at St. Francis Xavier Church.  According to the elder brother of Matt the body is at Mengo Hospital.

Kiggundu has been on a number of Boards.  It will be great if SMACK OBs show up in big numbers at the burial.

May his soul rest in peace.

St Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK) is mourning one of its illustrious old boys, Matthias Sekitoleko Kiggundu.
The Chairman of the College’s Parents and Teachers’ Association (PTA), Kiggundu, 61, died at International Hospital Kampala on Thursday evening, after an attack of ulcers. As PTA chair, Kiggundu was a member of the SMACK Board of Governors (BOG) in charge of finance.
Relatives and associates last week spoke of Kiggundu as a humble person and a very committed member of the SMACK fraternity. Rebecca Walugembe, a sister-in-law, said Kiggundu was devoted to community service, giving generously to churches, schools and hospitals. He also served on the boards of such schools as Caltec Academy and Rubaga Girls SS.
Benjamin Coutinho, a brother-in-law to Kiggundu, described him as a committed father who treasured education.
“If you had a problem, he would be there for you,” Coutinho said.
Michael Jjingo, a member of the SMACK BOG, said of Kiggundu: “He was a very committed member of the board, who would never miss any meeting or engagement. He was a signatory to the SMACK accounts but he was always available to sign.”
A banker from his early days in the 1970s, Kiggundu had successful stints and consultancies in Barclays bank, Uganda Motor Dealers Association, Marubeni Corporation, and the Central Purchasing Corporation, among other entities. At the time of his death, Kiggundu was the general manager of Equinox International service station and the secretary general of Baganda Pamba Ltd.
Kiggundu attended Kisubi primary school and St Michael’s Junior School in Virika, Fort Portal, before joining SMACK in 1961. He then went to Nairobi University in 1968 to study commerce. He is survived by a wife – Margaret Kiggundu – and three children. The eldest son works with the Marine police in the United States, while two daughters are doctors there.
Kiggundu is expected to be buried this week.

  1. Very sorry indeed! And this is real sorrow!
SMACK has lost one of the greatest pillars that have shaped the college's very wonderful reputation to a certain enviable prestige! Matt has always been very active for SMACK and I had the honour to work with him when I was in Uganda on the occasion of our centennial celebrations.
May God bless his soul in heavenly glory.
Very sincere condolences to the family!
And allow me to share with you all this deep sorrow!

  2. Thank you so much Willy!
I personally appeal to all contemporaries of the sixties, as well
as to all Mugwanyans to turn up in big numbers at this funeral!
I also appeal to any SMACKOBA -France now holidaying in Uganda
    to represent us.
May Matt's humble soul rest in eternal peace!
    Condolences to you all!
