UGANDA MAY NEED NOT LESS THAN USD 9,200,000 TO VACCINATE THOSE 55 AND ABOVE

According to figures available, Ugandans 55 years and above are about 2,292,374. The Cabinet of Uganda resolved that before all classes resume, the people in Uganda who are 55 years and above should all be vaccinated first.

This gets us into the cost of the vaccines. According to the website quoted below, it has been possible to procure vaccines between $5.25 and $2.15.

Taking all logistics to have a person 55 years and above, I am taking an average of $4 per dose. I assume that Uganda may procure vaccine doses for 2,300,000 people. This against the background that teachers some of whom are below 55 years will be required to be vaccinated according to the Government, and possibly Medical personnel who have touch with patients and are really vulnerable.

So, 2,300,000 times $4 per dose comes to $9,200,000. That is not little money for a country like Uganda.

COVID - 19: Countries are learning what others paid for vaccines.
