IT DISTURBS TO FIND THAT ALMOST A MONTH SINCE SCHOOLS OPENED, THE MINISTRY OF GENDER HAS FAILED TO IDENTIFY THE BENEFICIARY TEACHERS TO RECEIVE SHS 100,000 COVID RELIEF FUNDS.
Background:
Private school teachers to receive Shs 100,000 each in #COVID19 relief cash. Through @GiveDirectly, 300,000 teachers in primary and secondary schools are set to receive the cash through their mobile money accounts observer.ug/news/headlines…
People in responsible Government offices in Uganda need to have a human heart. We are aware that the lowest grade of teachers in Government schools are Grade III. These received at least shs 350,000 a month through the 21 months of lockdown. That makes shs 7,350,000 in all for each of them.
Now, you get some people in Government offices denying teachers shs 100,000 which is 0.00136% of what Grade III teachers got in all in the 21 months. Why do people fail to be realistic? Secondly! Why tie the shs 100,000 relief for private teachers to a condition that the money should be received by only those who did not receive what came to be known as Nabbanja’s money?
Let us be fair in this country. All of us are aware of funds that remained undisbursed of the Nabbanja money with Post-bank Uganda. What became of this money?
Ministry of Gender should just request the District Education Officers to get to them the name of Private Schools and teachers within those schools as by 1st term 2020. The names should be accompanied with the phone numbers those teachers use, not necessarily that the phone number has to tally with the name. It is true, a number of people have issues with National Identity Cards, but should not miss out on this money.
In Uganda we need to pray to God that many in Government offices get a human heart. This business of ruling out people who have been badly hit by COVID lockdown will not help anybody to access heaven.
