YOUTH NEED TO STOP RECKLESS LIFE STYLES

YOUTH NEED TO STOP RECKLESS LIFESTYLES.

I happened to be one of those who were a long Entebbe Highway to welcome Kabaka Muwenda Mutebi II to the Final Masaza Cup.

Among those who were so happy and jubilating were boda boda riders (Commercial motorcyclists). These guys do all sorts of things while they ride the motorcycles. You see some doing acrobatics, others riding recklessly. Actually, after witnessing how these youth show excitement, the first thing that may come to one’s mind is withdrawing the motorcycle if he or she has one.

Many youth do not take their lives seriously. For example, during curfew time, it was not unusual to learn about youth who would be moving around past 10.00pm. Even now, some seem not aware that it is unsafe moving around at night.

On Friday, March 4 I attended burial of a youth who was about 18 or 19 years. As he moved, he was mistaken for I don’t know what (looks like someone had snatched something) then a mod decided to beat him. He was taken for treatment but passed on eventually. It was very difficult time at burial as his associates or friends could not believe he was gone. I saw some struggling to be buried with him. I saw one who fainted.

What does that show?

Youth should stop reckless life styles. While one rides a motorcycle as if there are no other road users, in case of an accident and eventually death, he leaves relatives and friends in deep pain. It is very important to be responsible people because death is just at the corner. In an instant, one is no more.
