HOPEFULLY, THE WEEK STARTING JANUARY 22, THE SMACK COMMUNITY WILL GET TO KNOW THE HEAD TEACHER OF THE COLLEGE WHO WILL HAVE BEEN BLESSED BY THE ARCHDIOCESE OF KAMPALA.

DUC IN ALTUM - THE SCHOOL MOTTO

Duc in Altum is Latin for "put out into the deep", the words that Jesus said to Peter when he first encountered him, prompting him to go into deep water and lower his nets for a catch. Peter reluctantly agreed, and as a result, his fishing nets tore because of the great number of fish he caught. Peter discovered the depth of Jesus's grace and left everything to follow him.

Reverend Father Raux Modeste was confronted by so many problems as the founding Headmaster of St. Mary’s School (SMS), however, he had great courage to the extent that the school to which he had given the motto Duc in Altum (Aim at the highest) becomes number one.

The School (SMS) was later on to be guided by the Catholic Church locally in Uganda. And from then on up to now, it enjoyed the repute of an excellent school at academics. The school, St. Mary’s College, Kisubi (SMACK) has over eleven decades now produced men who have excelled in the various areas of their specialization worldwide.

Before the NRM / A captured power in 1986, there were no known standoff positions between the Ministry of Education and the founders of the School at the level of appointments of school heads. As of now, it is sad to learn that the Ministry of Education is pushing the Catholic Church to the wall over who should lead the School. Surprisingly, the school all the years up to 1986 was led by Headmasters who had the blessing of the Catholic Church. And, because of the excellent guidance by the Church, many leaders in NRM Government want their sons to go to SMACK.

The question is: If the Catholic Church has always blessed the Head Teacher, what has changed that now the Ministry of Education and Sports wants their chosen to head the School?

We are aware that 2022 PLE results are to be released the week starting January 22. How can a great school of the status of SMACK have no substantive Head Teacher as of now?

The NRM Government has to be very careful not to kill what it found in place. The best is to leave SMACK under the guidance of the Church which is the backbone of the Schools academic excellence.

Hopefully, early the week starting January 22, the SMACK Community will get to know the Head Teacher of their School who will have been blessed by the Archdiocese of Kampala the owners of SMACK.

The beauty of SMACK as shown in the photos below has the big hand of the men of God in the Catholic Church who had the vision of the school they wanted and it is what we see now.
