PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Demystifying Human Rights (DEHURI) is a project proposal focused on getting students/children and other members of society a Narration Presentation on Video/DVD explaining what Human Rights are and why they are important for good human relations, and how to seek redress in case of abuse.  The project shall have a manuscript written which when narrated will help the listening/viewing public to know what Human Rights is all about article by article up to the 30th with relevant illustrations from daily life experiences.  The manuscript shall be read through by a Consultant on Human Rights for editing/corrections and authorization/endorsement.  8 competent people shall be chosen to do the Narrators’ work and each one will cover at least 3 articles of the Human Rights.  These when ready, will be recorded using video equipment.  After the recording, Master Video tapes and DVDs shall be produced.  With the Master DVDs, it will be possible to produce 1,000 copies of DVDs well labeled many of which shall be sold to schools, organizations and bookshops.

BACKGROUND OF THE GROUP
The Chairman of GOGOP – Willy Kituuka had been doing a lot of writing not only for the local press in Uganda but also to Government officials on issues of Good Governance.  It is then that he was invited to attend Africa Good Governance Training on Radio Waves which was designed by Municipal Development Partnership of Eastern and Southern Africa (MDP – ESA) together with World Bank Institute (WBI) among others.  This was from 2005 to 2007.  Mr Kituuka was interested in disseminating the content of the training to locals, hence the registration of Good Governance Practice as a Community Based Organisation by Wakiso district.  The idea of demystifying Human Rights is an identified gap which we can bridge if we develop a Video /DVDs on the subject and widely sell them.

THE PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The basic objective is to demystify Human Rights.  When children/students and other publics have ample information on Human Rights, they will make educated and safe choices on Human Rights and a host of other vices that are a shame to their nation – Uganda.

PROJECT BACKGROUND
The Late United States President James Madison once said, “The most popular democracies empower their citizens to acquire information.  Such democracies realize that well informed citizens are easier to govern as they understand the issues at stake.”  Uganda is one country dotted with a History of Human Rights abuses (one could call it tenuous) examples being among others the incidents in Northern Uganda; abduction; rape, mutilation, conscription, torture, murder, destruction of property have been common for years. Children have been abducted and undergone violence, the perpetual hardships in Internally Displaced People’s Camps and shortage of food.  It is true that some people get their rights abused or even abuse those of others ignorantly, and the project would like the ignorance to be history and that people should get to know how they can seek redress when abused.  Today, the experience at elections in Uganda is not news, when the public gets knowledgeable, they may arrest the situation.

PROJECT OUTPUTS
1)    More awareness by the children/students of Human Rights.
2)    Increased reporting of Human Rights violators.
3)    Reduced Human Rights abuses due to awareness of the abuses.
4)    Promotion and protection of political rights in the area of regular free and fair elections.
5)    Women knowing their rights and ensuring that they enjoy them.
6)    Being able to say no to Government excesses when it is the abuser of people’s rights (say freedom of association/assembly).
