WHAT I WROTE ABOUT THE LATE SISTER (DR) MAGDALENE NAMUKASA OG OF SMACK

Dr Old Boys,
It is sad the news of the death of one of our Old Girls – Reverend (Sister) Magdalene Namukasa (Dr) which occurred yesterday 19th November 2008 at Mulago Hospital.  The Late Doctor who has been a practicing Dentist at Kisubi Hospital .  She was at St. Mary’s College Kisubi for A ‘level from (1994 – 1996).

Burial is today at Gogonya Convent  - Kisubi after a Requiem Mass which will start at 1.00pm.

Prior to SMACK Centenary Celebrations, Dr Namukasa had been sick with Pressure related heath problems.  I remember getting in touch with her in 2006 when I wanted to get a photo of Sister (Dr) Assumpta of Nkozi Hospital also an Old Girl of SMACK.  She was very useful and I was able to get the photo which was later used in SMACK Centenary Magazine.

Below is what Sister (Dr) Assumpta wrote for the Magazine on behalf of the SMACK OG’s

The Ladies who read from SMACK
By Sister (Dr) Assumpta Nabawanuka (IHMR Sr) - Nkozi Hospital .

“St. Mary’s College Kisubi, inspite of its name has always been a school for boys, that is at least until we girls came in!  Did you know that SMACK has “Old Girls” as well?  Well, it was in 1989 when Brother Joseph Tinkasimire, then Headmaster, bravely opened the gates of the Great College for boys to us the women, Sister Gertrude Namale, and Sister Assumpta Nabawanuka, and then five years later in 1994 to Sister Magdalene Namukasa and Sister Judith Kenjeru.

It was a very challenging experience for us and to some extent initially intimidating.  However, we soon discovered that the boys whom the Headmaster always addressed as “gentlemen” were indeed worth the name.  They respected us the “ladies”, they were quite cooperative and ready to help us.  We loved our stay at the College.  Today, the two of us Ms Gertrude Namale and myself (Sister Assumpta Nabawanuka IHMR, are Medical Doctors whereas Sister (Dr) Magdalene Namukasa (IHMR) is Dental Surgeon, all graduates of Makerere University.”

Sorry Sister (Dr) Assumpta that Sister (Dr) Magdalene has departed and we now have to say: “Fare well thee Sister (Dr) Magdalene.”

“May the Almighty God Grant Sister Magdalene eternal Peace.”
