KEEPING SOCIAL MEDIA OFF IN UGANDA IS ANOTHER NEGATIVE FOR NRM GOVERNMENT

It is not clear whether anyone in NRM Government knows the pain many Ugandans have to endure going on with life without social media.

One thing: Being on social media has away of promoting people’s security. If there is any problem using the media easily gets the information to the right target in an instant and cheaply.

A number of people undertake marketing using social media. The time it has been off has badly affected this category. As people get to recover from the effects of the lockdown, they again find themselves unnecessarily inconvenienced by Government.

The social media is not just for gossip. I have been getting updates on COVID - 19 situation in Uganda from the social media as used by the Ministry of Health. Since February 12, I have found myself at a loss. Information blackout!

Developments including death news are easily posted on social media. Now, it is people who dodged the OTT that the Government of Uganda is promoting hence punishing those who religiously pay the tax.

Surely, things are upside down.

Now the NRM CAUCUS is going to meet over performance in the polls. People are annoyed. Government is at liberty to take away what they see as their rights. Many inconvenienced with developments which include a situation where some people are made to disappear are all working negatively for the NRM. Government MUST come clean and find out how the situation got where it is.

Many people use Facebook for prayers. They are in a blackout. Others are learners who keep in touch with instructors using Facebook. The list is endless.

People will not support Government which has taken away all the liberty they should enjoy. We need to know that curfew is still in place, no body knows when learners will go back to school. Bars and music shows are still under lockdown. When all these are summed up, Government cannot get positives.

At least following the lockdown, Government should least inconvenience people by say having social media off. Where somethings are not moving well, at least social media keeps people going.

Ugandans cannot be kept in the dark with no certainty as to when they will enjoy social media and you imagine this promotes the like for Government. Never.

At least Government should be considerate and have social media back. It is most likely that COVID - 19 badly affected President Trump so that he lost the polls. Even for NRM, people are getting fedup of a Government that is taking them for granted.

I rest my case.
