The poor people of
Uganda can be helped if there is a deliberate policy off diesel. It is true that engines which run on diesel
can be run on plant oil substitutes. If
such substitutes like Sunflower can be encouraged, then the farmers would reap
big. Our industrial capacity greatly
depends on diesel oil and the same to the trucks. This oil is subject to a lot of external
influences, including transport logistics, increased prices among other
things. If money spent on buying diesel
is instead spent on buying Sunflower and the modification to serve as diesel,
then many of our farmers would benefit and cost of transportation could equally
be reduced and our industrial produce would equally get more competitive as
there are chances of producing at a lower cost due to substitution of diesel.
